Charge-exchange scattering in K-p interactions below 300 MeV/c

Abstract: Cross sections for K-p charge exchange, based on new data equal in statistics to the sum of those of all previous determinations below 300 MeV/c, are presented. The results confirm an earlier observation by this collaboration that the previous measurements of these cross sections at low momentum were significantly underestimated. Evidence for the presence of P wave scattering is presented.

“…6 we confront our result with a selection of differential cross sections from elastic K − -proton scattering [116]. The angular distribution patterns are [11,13,[114][115][116][117][118]. Further data points represented by open triangles [119] were not considered in the global fit.…”

The latter include the σ(K − p → K − p) elastic cross section [52,53,54,55], the σ(K − p →K 0 n) charge exchange one [52,53,55,56,57], and several hyperon production reactions, σ( [53]. In our normalization the corresponding cross section, keeping only the S-wave, is given by…”
