This paper proposes a new concept to enhance the efficiency of the vibration energy harvesting via an intermediate booster. The boosters have auxetic struc-tures and exert extra stretching strain in two perpendicular directions. The concept is tested on a conventional cantilever beam under the base excitation. The problem consists of a cantilever beam subjected to a body load at low frequencies. An auxetic substrate is bonded to the beam with a thin epoxy layer, and the piezoelectric (PZT) element is attached on top of it. Two different auxetic structures are investigated in this study. It is shown that employing these kinds of boosters can remarkably enhance the performance of the energy harvesting system. The harvesting efficiency is numerically evaluated in different load amplitudes and frequencies. A parametric study is then carried out, and effects of different geometrical design parameters of the auxetic boosters on the performance of the energy harvesting system are investigated. Comparing with the case in which the PZT is straightly attached to the cantilever, it is shown that adding such intermediate boosters at low-frequency range can increase the extracted power by factors of 3.9 and 7.0 for the two proposed geometries.

Process of obtaining energy from the environment can be called as energy scavenging or energy harvesting. In this paper, we explore the scope of scavenging electrical energy from the noise pollution present in environment and review various energy harvesting techniques for this purpose. Basically, noise is an unwanted sound that is loud, unpleasant and unexpected. Very high population, industrial, commercial activities and transportation increase the noise pollution level in the environment. In urban areas, transport related noise is the major cause of noise pollution. We know that electricity requirement is increasing day by day. Clean energy resources can help the electricity grid to fulfill the increased requirement without bad consequences. Clean energy does not produce any waste, which can pollute the environment. The various mathematical expressions have shown to minimize the level of noise pollution. With help of empirical formula more electricity can be produced. We reviewed the impact of transportation noise pollution, avoidance methods and simultaneous opportunity to transform it into electrical energy.

This study is based on energy harvesting from vibration and deals with the comparison of different techniques. In the present scenario, energy harvesting has drawn the attention of researchers due to a rapid increase in the use of wireless and small-scale devices. So, there is a huge thirst among scientists to develop permanent portable power sources. In the surroundings, a lot of unutilized energy is wasted which can be collected and used for power generation. Research works have been extensively carried out to develop energy harvesting devices catering to the increasing needs of being efficient and economical. Effective energy harvesting mainly depends on the design of the transducer. Different types of design techniques, material properties, and availability of energy harvesters are reviewed in this paper. The paper aims to explore the advantages and limitations of different energy harvesting principles, advances, and findings of the recent past. This study also discusses some of the key ideas for the enhancement of power output. This paper provides a broad view of the energy harvesting system to the learners, which will facilitate them to design more efficient energy harvesting devices by using different principles.
