“…Global temperatures have risen through the past decades due to greenhouse gas emissions, and we have also seen a rise in a number of extreme meteorological events such as tropical super Typhoon Haiyan in 2013. 3 Warmer temperatures and altered rainfall patterns are anticipated to promote outbreaks of infectious diseases due to more hospitable environments for pathogens and lack of ready access to health care. 4 Prevalence and mortality from pneumonia in children are the highest during rainy months in tropical and subtropical regions of Asia and Africa, which again highlights the pattern of pneumonia against climate.…”

“…9 Examples of such diseases are influenza and leptospirosis. 9 A tertiary hospital reported an increase in patient admissions for pneumonia and tuberculosis (TB) in the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan especially in the impact and post-impact phases, 3 and the entity 'tsunami lung' 10 has been described in victims who have pneumonia following a near-drowning episode after surviving a tsunami event. Victims described by Inoue et al 10 were rescued immediately after the tsunami and were in respiratory distress.…”

“…19 These findings are consistent with the patient demographic and epidemiology seen by our team during both Typhoon Bopha and Typhoon Haiyan as well as those within other reports. [20][21][22] Given the large percentage of pediatric patients seen in this study and in our team's experiences, the need for specific pediatric preparedness is reinforced.…”

“…The influence of typhoon disasters permeated through all aspects of people’s activities who live in the typhoon landing regions. Typhoons do not merely destroy infrastructures and facilities, but also cause serious threats to people’s health and life [6]. In addition to immediate injuries and deaths caused by the disaster, typhoon severely influences public health [7,8].…”
