Malathion is one of the commonly used organophosphate pesticides known to attack the central nervous system, posing a risk to humans and other animals upon exposure. The surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) has been identified as an indispensable tool for chemical and biomolecular sensing. In this work, the facile fabrication of activated carbon (AC)‐based colloidal SERS active substrate dubbed AC@AgNPs was designed by trapping AgNPs on the surface of AC for detection of varying concentrations of malathion. Apart from the higher concentrations of malathion, the rest of the normal Raman spectra of malathion standard solutions exhibited weak Raman signals. The intensity of peaks for 0.47 mg L−1 were nearly non‐existent which is an indication that the malathion pesticide could only be detected up to 0.95 mg L−1 when using silica wafer. On the contrary, all the SERS spectra of malathion in wheat extracts adsorbed on AC@AgNPs substrate exhibited strong Raman signals. Quantitative analysis of malathion was performed by regression models developed using PLSR built with the raw spectra (no pretreatment), SNV‐PLSR, and SNV‐CARS‐PLSR. The model with the most remarkable performance was established by using SNV‐PLSR with r = 0.9869 and RPD = 4.61. This research shows that the proposed method can rapidly detect malathion residues in wheat, suggesting that it could be adopted for production process monitoring of other related food products to guarantee their safety for human and animal consumption.

The present study reports the environment-friendly, energy-efficient, one-pot green synthetic method to synthesize AgNPs from Abrus precatorious fresh leaf extract. Phytochemical screening and chemical profiling tests for the leaf extract revealed the biomolecules that acts as reducing, stabilizing and capping agent. These AgNPs can be used as sensors for toxic heavy metals like Hg 2+, Ni 2+, Cu 2+, Bi 2+, K + and Cr 2+ .Catalytic ability was studied from the dye degradation and nitrophenol reduction. Methylene blue, methyl orange and methyl red dyes were found to degrade drastically with this AgNPs as catalyst. The reaction was carried out for 15minutes, with different concentrations (0.5ml and 2ml) of AgNPs which revealed that more amount of AgNPs catalyst triggered the reaction more easily. 68% of MB dye was degraded with 2ml catalyst and with 0.5ml catalyst 62% degradation efficiency was shown. 34% MO dye was degraded with 2ml catalyst and with 0.5ml catalyst, only 29% degradation was observed. The MR dye exhibited 49% and 42% degradation efficiency for 2ml and 0.5ml catalyst respectively. For reduction of 4-nitrophenol, the catalytic efficiency was calculated to be 66%.

Plant-mediated nanoparticles are gaining popularity due to biologically active secondary metabolites that aid in green synthesis. This study describes a simple, environmentally friendly, dependable, and cost-effective production of silver nanoparticles utilizing Cucumis sativus and Aloe vera aqueous leaf extracts. The aqueous leaf extracts of Cucumis sativus and Aloe vera , which worked as a reducing and capping agent, were used to biosynthesize silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The formation of surface plasmon resonance peaks at 403 and 405 nm corresponds to the formation of colloidal Ag nanoparticles. Similarly, the Bragg reflection peaks in X-ray diffraction patterns observed at 2θ values of 38.01°, 43.98°, 64.24°, and 77.12° representing the planes of [111], [200], [220], and [311] correspond to the face-centered cubic crystal structure of silver nanoparticles. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy confirms that bioactive chemicals are responsible for the capping of biogenic silver nanoparticles. The size, structure, and morphology of AgNPs with diameters ranging from 8 to 15 nm were examined using transmission electron microscopy. Water contamination by azo dyes and nitrophenols is becoming a more significant threat every day. The catalytic breakdown of organic azo dye methyl orange (MO) and the conversion of para -nitrophenol (PNP) into para -aminophenol using sodium borohydride was evaluated using the prepared biogenic nanoparticles. Our nanoparticles showed excellent reduction ability against PNP and MO with rate constants of 1.51 × 10 –3 and 6.03 × 10 –4 s –1 , respectively. The antibacterial activity of the nanomaterials was also tested against four bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus , Klebsiella pneumoniae , Enterobacter , and Streptococcus pneumoniae . These biogenic AgNPs displayed effective catalytic and antibacterial characteristics by reducing MO and PNP and decreasing bacterial growth.
