Characterization of white mold disease avoidance in common bean

Abstract: White mold, caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, is a devastating fungal disease of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) worldwide. Physiological resistance and disease avoidance conferred by plant architecture-related traits contribute to white mold field resistance. Our objective was to further examine white mold disease avoidance in common bean. A comparative map composed of 79 quantitative trait loci (QTL) for white mold resistance (27), disease avoidance traits (36) and root traits (16) was generated. Thirt… Show more

“…Furthermore, they exhibited a high level of physiological resistance to a specific isolate of S. sclero- (Miklas et al, 2013). The results of this study indicate that the physiological resistance of Cornell 605, A195 and G122 is effective against distinct genotypes of S. sclerotiorum collected from the main producing regions of common bean in Brazil.…”

“…Escape mechanisms and physiological resistance mechanisms are quantitatively inherited and controlled by QTLs (quantitative trait loci) to both small and large effect (Miklas et al, 2013;Mkwaila et al, 2011;Soule et al, 2011;Lara et al, 2014).…”

“…The BMd42a, BM212, and ATA244 markers evaluated in this study have appeared in the literature for LG 10 (Freyre et al, 1998;Grisi et al, 2007;Miklas et al, 2013). All identified QTLs increased the resistance to white mold.…”

“…This marker was initially mapped by Yu et al (2000) in 2 RIL populations, DOR364/G19833 and BAT93/JaloEEP558, in LG 4, and has frequently been reported in the literature (Blair et al, 2003(Blair et al, , 2008Mkwaila et al, 2011;Soule et al, 2011;Miklas et al, 2013). In its linkage group, there are 2 QTLs-WM4.1 PX and WM4.2 R31 , identified by Park et al (2001) and Soule et al (2011), respectively.…”
