Characterization of the passive films on electrodeposited Fe-Ni-Cr alloys in borate solution at pH 8.4

Abstract: Abstract:The corrosion properties of the passive layers formed on iron-nickel-chromium electrodeposits of Fe 29 Ni 51 Cr 20 were investigated in 0.3 M borate solution at a' pH of 8.4. On the basis of measurements by cyclic voltammetry, chronopotentiometry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, a low passive dissolution/corrosion rate was identified for the electrodeposited Fe-Ni-Cr alloys due to the nature of the established corrosion layer. The stability of this passive layer was further enhanced after c… Show more

“…As mentioned in the introduction both hardness and corrosion resistance are important characteristics of Fe-Ni-Cr coating, the composition of coating (particularly quantity of chromium) affects these properties [3][4][5]16]. Therefore, in microhardness and corrosion resistance study, the samples are chosen which have same quantity of Cr, but prepared by DC and PC electrodeposition.…”

“…Previously it was shown that introduction of ions of chromium [5][6][7] and nickel [4,5,8,9] into the iron-plating electrolyte results in certain changes in surface morphology, phase composition, microstructure, and preferred crystal orientations in the produced coatings. Joint effect of nickel and chromium on structure formation of electrodeposited iron was also investigated [10][11][12][13][14][15][16]. The analysis of literature sources shows that the majority of research works of the electrodeposited iron-based alloys are directed mainly to electrochemical issues of their deposition, but their structure and phase composition usually got less attention.…”

“…The analysis of literature sources shows that the majority of research works of the electrodeposited iron-based alloys are directed mainly to electrochemical issues of their deposition, but their structure and phase composition usually got less attention. However, a few works discussing certain structural aspects of the ternary Fe-Cr-Ni alloys mainly deal with the coatings produced from chloride electrolytes [12][13][14][15].…”
