Graphitized carbon (GC) and graphene (GE) modified Fe2O3/Li4Ti5O12 (LTO) composites have been synthesized via a solid‐state reaction, respectively. The structure, morphology and electrochemical performance of the materials have also been characterized with X‐ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) with an energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) system, X‐ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and electrochemical measurements. The discharge capacities of Fe2O3/LTO, GC/Fe2O3/LTO and GE/Fe2O3/LTO are 100.2 mAh g−1, 207.5 mAh g−1 and 238.9 mAh g−1 after 100 cycles at the current density of 176 mA g−1. The cyclic stability and rate capability are in the order of GE/Fe2O3/LTO > GC/Fe2O3/LTO > Fe2O3/LTO because of the synergistic effect between GC (GE) and Fe2O3/LTO. Nanosized lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO 4 ) and transition metal oxide (MO, where M is Cu, Ni, Mn, Co, and Fe) particles are synthesized continuously in supercritical water at 25-30 MPa and 400°C under various conditions for active material application in lithium secondary ion batteries. The properties of the nanoparticles, including crystallinity, particle size, surface area, and electrochemical performance, are characterized in detail. The discharge capacity of LiFePO 4 was enhanced up to 140 mAh/g using a simple carbon coating method. The LiFePO 4 particles prepared using supercritical hydrothermal synthesis (SHS) deliver the reversible and stable capacity at a current density of 0.1 C rate during ten cycles. The initial discharge capacity of the MO is in the range of 800-1,100 mAh/g, values much higher than that of graphite. However, rapid capacity fading is observed after the first few cycles. Flow-type reactors are effective for the precise control of reaction conditions and high throughput production. To enhance the effectiveness of this process, the establishment of a design method is required. For this purpose, the effects of operating parameters on supercritical hydrothermal nanoparticle synthesis in a flow-type reactor were examined. Ceria nanoparticles were formed from 2.0 mM cerium nitrate at reaction temperatures ranging from 200 to 380 °C and with a flow rate of 11.6-37.5 mL/min. In addition, channel sizes of 0.3, 1.3, and 2.3 mm were used for the mixing point. Rapid mixing and higher temperatures were found to enable the formation of smaller nanoparticles. Furthermore, all experimental results were summarized using dimensionless numbers. Though the Reynolds number was related to the effect of mixing on particle formation, this number is independent of the reaction rate. Results were correlated using the Damköhler number, the ratio of reaction rate to mixing rate. From the threshold value of the Damköhler number, reaction-controlled conditions where the particle size was independent of the flow/mixing rate could be predicted.
