Characterization of pyrolysis bio-oil derived from intermediate pyrolysis of Aegle marmelos de-oiled cake: study on performance and emission characteristics of C.I. engine fueled with Aegle marmelos pyrolysis oil-blends

Biofuel is a renewable fuel and can be used as a replacement for diesel. Pyrolysis oil can be derived from non‐edible de‐oiled seed cakes. This investigation focuses on the exergy investigation of a compression ignition (CI) engine to maximize the work exergy (availability) and minimize the destroyed exergy, powered by Aegle marmelos (AM) de‐oiled seed cake bio‐oil blends. A dual blend of diesel and AM pyrolysis oil was taken in ratios, F0 = 100 + 0, F5 = 95 + 5, F10 = 90 + 10, F15 = 85 + 15, and F20 = 80 + 20 and were tested on a constant speed CI engine at standard compression ratio. The investigational analysis exhibited that a high amount of oxygen content in AM pyrolysis oil blends increased the brake thermal efficiency and decreased the brake‐specific fuel consumption compared with diesel (F0). The owing exergy efficiency was obtained from the F20 blend (57.21%) at 100% load (W). Based on the investigation, considering availability and performance behavior of F5, F10, F15, and F20 blends were suggested as suitable biofuel alternatives to diesel.

The present investigation emphasis on characteristics of pyrolysis products was obtained by intermediate pyrolysis of Aegle marmelos (AM) deoiled seed cake and appropriateness of engine adaptation. The superior volatile matter (73.69%) contented AM biomass was elected as the feed stock in this study. Pyrolysis experiment was done by a fixed bed reactor at 600°C and obtained 42–55% bio‐oil yield. Investigation of bio‐oil by GC/MS and FTIR established the occurrence of methyl, ester, alkanes, ketones and oxygenated chemicals have been alternates for fossil fuels. SEM and EDX analysis of bio‐char exposes activated carbon and ensured that biochar can be used in the waste water treatment plant, solid fuel, organic fertilizer, and natural mosquito destroyer. According to GC analysis, the presence of CH4, H2, and C2H6 evolved syngas in AM pyrolysis process can be used C.I engines at dual fuel mode operation. An engine test reveals that adding of the pyrolysis oil diminished BTE (%) and increasing BSEC (MJ/kWhr). However, increasing bio‐oil ratio blend with diesel reduces hazardous emissions like CO, HC, NOx, and smoke in the exhaust. The fossil fuel depletion, harmful emissions, and loss in biodiversity led researches to move toward alternative fuel and fuel up gradation techniques. This study emphasizes on effect of novel Aegle marmelos organic biochar nanoparticles (AMBNs) as an additive to Aegle marmelos (AM) pyrolysis oil blend and their influence on combustion, performance, and emission behavior of diesel engine. The AMBNs are mixed with pyrolysis oil-diesel blend in the concentration of 25 ppm, and 50 ppm by using ultrasonicator. The physicochemical properties of test fuel opuses were studied.Engine analysis was conducted on direct injection, four-stroke, and single-cylinder diesel engine. The experimental investigation was carried out at a constant speed of 1500 rpm and a standard compression ratio of 17.5:1 at varying engine load conditions. The engine behavior of pyrolysis oil-diesel-AMB nano additives opuses was compared with neat diesel (ND). The augmenting AMBNs additive to fuel blend has enhanced the combustion, performance and decreasing the fuel-burning emission.The significances of AMBN50 on engine characteristics was enriched HRR of 53.73 J/deg CA have been obtained, which is 49.41 J/deg CA for neat diesel at peak load. Similarly, higher CP was achieved in AMBN50 of 64.09 bar at CA of 8 after TDC, which is 63.22 bar for diesel fuel at full load condition. The recommended fuel blend AMBN50 exhibits 13.24% of higher BTE, 27.57% lower CO, 19.11% lower HC, 18.46% higher CO 2 emissions as compared with ND. Experimental output responses reveal that new hybrid AMBN50 fuel opus is suggested to attain the suitable engine characteristics for a green and eco-friendly environment.
