Characterization of PEO-PAN hybrid solid polymer electrolytes

Abstract: Hybrid solid polymer electrolytes (HSPE) of high ionic conductivity were prepared using polyethylene oxide (PEO), polyacrylonitrile (PAN), propylene carbonate (PrC), ethylene carbonate (EC), and LiClO 4 . These electrolyte films were dry, free standing, and dimensionally stable. The HSPE films were characterized by constructing symmetrical cells containing nonblocking lithium electrodes as well as blocking stainless steel electrodes. Studies were made on ionic conductivity, electrochemical reaction, interfacia… Show more

“…9b). This behaviour is similar to that reported for a Li/gel electrolyte/Li cell [42] and clearly suggests that the Mg metal attains equilibrium with the Mg 2+ ions in the gel polymer electrolyte. A possible electrical equivalent circuit is shown in the inset of Fig.…”

“…16. Such behaviour has also been observed for a lithium system (i.e., Li/gel electrolyte interface) [46]. An almost stable value of the bulk resistance R b (between 14 and 23 ) persists for about 100 h (Fig.…”

“…The appearance of a welldefined semi-circle for the Mg|gel nanocomposite|Mg cell clearly indicates that the Mg metal attains equilibrium with the Mg 2+ ions in the gel polymer electrolyte nanocomposite. Such behaviour has recently been reported for a Li|gel electrolyte|Li cell [46]. The bulk resistance of the gel film (R b ) was obtained from the highfrequency intercept of the complex plane plots and the interfacial resistance (R i ) was calculated from the low-frequency intercept.…”

“…Polymer solid electrolytes have received wide attention because of their advantages of good flexibility and easy processing into thin-film batteries. Although polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), , polypropylene carbonate (PPC), , and polyacrylonitrile(PAN)-based solid electrolytes have been increasingly studied, the most commonly studied and most performance stable polymer-based electrolyte is poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) due to its high solubility of lithium salt and good mechanical properties. However, PEO-based solid electrolytes have poor conductivity performance at room temperature due to their facile crystallization and therefore need to operate at high temperatures .…”
