Characterization of PEG in monomethyl ethers of PEG by 2‐D LC

Abstract: PEGs present in samples of the corresponding monomethyl ethers are analyzed by 2-D LC with LC at critical conditions as the first and liquid adsorption chromatography as the second dimension. The fractions from the first dimension are transferred to the second one by heart-cutting using a ten-port valve. The efficiency of the separation is dramatically improved by adding water to the eluate from the first dimension before the switching valve in order to have a weaker eluent in the fraction than that of the sec… Show more

“…Humans are exposed to glycol ethers because of their wide use in industry and households as solvents, detergents, or emulsifiers . The lipophilic and hydrophilic character of these compounds, induced by ether and alcohol groups, as well as their relatively high boiling point, is the reason for their large‐scale use.…”

“…The toxicity of ethylene glycol monomethyl ether (EGME), which causes reproductive, hematological, and developmental defects , promoted its removal from a great number of formulations in many countries . Nevertheless, EGME and diethylene glycol monomethyl ether (DEGME), the latter classified as harmful, are still used primarily as intermediates in processing solvents and as jet fuel deicing additives .…”

“…The ability to incorporate charged species into the polymer also needs hydrosolubility property (Pathak et al, 2007). In addition, the application of Poly(Ethylene Oxide) (PEO) in the therapeutic polymer field has rose tremedously, owing to its numerous properties of solubility in both aqueous and organic media, as well as ease of chemical modification and biocompatibility (Stella et al, 2000;Ahmed and Trathnigg, 2010). Currently Ngoy et al (2011) found that folic acid bound conjugate to multi walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) had a high hydrophilicity property over conventional conjugates.…”
