Characterization of Noise Level Inside a Vehicle under Different Conditions

Abstract: Vehicular acoustic noise evaluations are a concern of researchers due to health and comfort effects on humans and are fundamental for anyone interested in mitigating audio noise. This paper focuses on the evaluation of the noise level inside a vehicle by using statistical tools. First, an experimental setup was developed with microphones and a microcomputer located strategically on the car’s panel, and measurements were carried out with different conditions such as car window position, rain, traffic, and car s… Show more

“…The system was uncoupled from the vehicle by means of PID controller, evaluated to maintain the system at a fixed distance from the ground and reduced damping. Related to vehicles also, Flor et al [ 5 ] focused on the evaluation of the noise level inside a vehicle by means of statistical tools. They made an experimental setup of microphones and a microcomputer strategically located on the car’s panel, and they conducted measurements under different conditions, including car window positions, rain, traffic and various speeds.…”

“…Our previous analysis [3] showed how some factors such as traffic are correlated to the average noise power inside the vehicle. For that evaluation, a total of 194 noise samples were collected using a measurement setup installed in a C4 Lounge from Citroën.…”

“…The need for low-noise components is due to the fact that the power unit of electric vehicles is much quieter and produces less vibration than the conventional internal combustion engine, in which the passengers do not perceive, for example, the harsh expression of the airconditioning because it is overwhelmed by the power unit. The passengers of electric cars are, therefore, more sensitive to both sound and vibration of car components [13][14][15]. C. Ma et al [16] measured the acoustic noise inside the interior of an electric vehicle to define the intensity of noise.…”
