Pristup u unutrašnju strukturu zeolta imaju samo molekule čije dimenzije su manje ili približno jednake dimenzijama ulaza u pore ("efekat molekulskog sita").Pored toga katalitičke, odnosno kiselo-bazne osobine zeolita se u značajnoj mjeri mogu modifikovati bilo promjenom Si/Al odnosa (11) bilo uvođenjem (zamjenom) katjona u kristalnoj strukturi zeolita (12,13), a djelimično i promjenom uslova aktivacije katalizatora (14).
