Novel natural plant fibers with significant features are to be explored at the moment due to their renewability, degradability, wide range acceptability, economic feasibility, and ecological standards over existing synthetic ones. Since the identification of potential plant fibers are getting much attention of scientists/researchers for the development of promising fiber reinforced composites. In the light of this, the present study identified a novel plant fiber from the peduncle of Furcraea selloa K. Koch and studied its anatomical, morphological, physico-chemical, thermal, mechanical and surface properties in order to explore its utility as a composite reinforcement. Anatomical study was satisfactory for identifying the presence and position of the fiber in the plant material. Good crystallinity (49.27%), high cellulose content (71.13%) and relatively low density (1127 kg/m 3 ) were found as the feasible features after physicochemical analysis. Indeed, desirable thermal stability (370 C) and tensile property (649.21 ± 16.52 MPa) of Furcraea selloa K. Koch peduncle fiber (FSPF) revealed its ability for high temperature required processing and applications. The morphological studies ensure good surface roughness and reduced microfibrillar angle (7.83 ± 0.23 ), which are recommended features for good fibermatrix addition. These promising properties are sufficient to deliberate FSPF as a new potential composite reinforcement, with good specific properties and high environmental impact.

The nanoparticles are incorporated into the composite to mark their unique properties. This work investigates the hybrid epoxy nanocomposite and the impact of nanographite reinforcement. The composite was prepared by using a mechanical stirring technique. The amount of nanographite was added in different volumes, i.e., 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 wt.%. Results of mechanical and dynamic loading properties were analyzed in accordance to the quantity of nano-G. The fiber and matrix interfacial bonding enrichments were evident in high-resolution SEM images-tensile fracture surface. Finally, the optimum content of nanoparticle which impacts the sample greatly was found to be 1.5 wt.%.

Suitability examination of a new cellulosic fiber extracted from the stem of Ventilago maderaspatana plant as polymer composite reinforcement

This article is designed to examine the aptness of Ventilago maderaspatana fiber (VMF) as reinforcement in polymer composites. A significant quantity of cellulose fraction (56.12 ± 5.42 wt%) in the VMF was estimated via chemical analysis. The X-ray diffraction analysis identified the presence of cellulose type-I and peak cellulose type-IV in the VMF, and it quantified the crystallinity index (25.88%) and crystalline size (26.12 nm) of the VMF. Various chemical functional groups in the VMF were categorized with the help of Fouriertransform infrared spectroscopic analysis. The thermal degradation behavior of the VMF was investigated with the help of thermogravimetric analysis, and it determined the thermal stability (200 C) and kinetic activation energy (62.46 kJ/mol) of VMF. The scanning electron microscopic and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopic analysis revealed the existence of contaminations, hemicellulose and lignin on the outer layer of VMF, and it was confirmed by atomic force microscopic analysis. The lower density (1236 ± 18.42 kg/m 3 ) and better tensile strength (383.7 ± 16.07 MPa) of the VMF enabled the possibility of use as reinforcement in fiber reinforced plastics.
