Characterization of Mixtures of Alkyl Polyglycosides (Plantacare) by Liquid Chromatography-Electrospray Ionization Quadrupole Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry

Abstract: The presented LC/ESI-QTOF-MS approach allows to analyze and characterize various APG products, such as Plantacare. The ability of this LC/ESI-QTOF-MS approach to analyze mixtures of APGs with other surfactants is demonstrated.

“…This could probably be explained by that hydroxyl groups and ring oxygens are working as acceptor sites of sodium ions. [13]. In the XIC of m/z 371, corresponding to C12 monoglycosides, two peaks with almost the same height are seen (Fig.…”

“…A considerable number of papers have dealt with analysis of APG using several different techniques: colorimetric determination [6], thin-layer chromatography [7], GC-MS [8], several HPLC methods [9,10], HPLC-MS [11][12][13], MALDI-TOF-MS [9] and both static and LC-NMR [12]. Reversed phase HPLC has been shown useful for the separation of alkyl glycosides with regard to alkyl chain length, DP and isomer composition (␣-vs. ␤-anomers, pyranosides vs. furanosides and (1-4) vs. (1-6) binding) [11][12][13].…”

“…Because of their good foaming properties and synergy with other surfactants, they have found application in dishwashing and laundry detergents and in other cleaning products (Zgola-Grzeskowiak et al, 2008). Also, their good skin tolerance makes them suitable for mild personal-care products (Kuhn and Neubert, 2004). They are prepared on the basis of renewable raw materials, namely (starch/sugar) and fatty alcohols (vegetable oils).…”
