Characterization of Mapuera virus: structure, proteins and nucleotide sequence of the gene encoding the nucleocapsid protein

Abstract: The molecular biology of Mapuera virus was studied at both the protein and nucleic acid levels. Seven virusencoded proteins were detected in infected Vero cells. The sizes and characteristics of each of the proteins determined from various radiolabelling experiments allowed preliminary identification of the proteins as the large (L; 190 kDa), haemagglutinin neuraminidase (HN; 74 kDa), nucleocapsid (N; 66 kDa), fusion (Fo; 63 kDa), phosphoprotein (P; 49 kDa), matrix (M; 43 kDa) and non-structural (V; 35kDa) pro… Show more

“…Of the two paramyxoviruses, one was isolated from a Rousette fruit bat ( Rousettus leschenaulti ) in India (Pavri et al. 1971) and was later identified as a new animal subtype of parainfluenza virus (PIV) type 2, and the other, Mapuera virus, a member of the genus Rubulavirus, was isolated from a Yellow‐shouldered bat ( Sturnira lilium ) captured in the tropical rain forest of Brazil in 1979 (Henderson et al . 1995).…”

“…The MaV N gene sequence has already been published (Henderson et al, 1995). Since bats are believed to be a natural host of HeV, we were interested to see if MaV and HeV share any unique features that may be related to host specificity.…”

“…PIV5 strain W3A (Choppin, 1964), rPIV5VΔC (He et al , 2002) and MPRV strain BeAnn 370284 (Henderson et al , 1995) were grown and titrated in Vero cells. For virus infections, cell monolayers were incubated for 90 min with an appropriate dilution of virus stock in serum-free Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium.…”
