Characterization of Insulation Performance, Poststability, and Foaming Process of Rigid Polyurethane Sandwich Panel for Cold Storage Warehouse

Abstract: Polyurethane (PU) is a commonly used insulation material for cold storage warehouses. The insulation performance of PU sandwich panels made from blended blowing agents were reassessed by k-factor measurements and insulation thickness calculation based on cold warehouse design standard, which has proved the significant impact of blowing agent difference on energy saving. The foam post-stability was also evaluated by mathematic profiling. The developed 3D paraboloid model based on gridding measurements has provi… Show more

“…For higher entropy of vaporization, defined as isochoric enthalpy change rate at boiling temperature, these blowing agents can reduce heat transfer at lower temperature. This phenomenon has been confirmed in previous experimental measurements of HCFC-245fa thermal conductivity [80]. This phenomenon evidently suggests that GLB model does not well consider the blowing agents difference in polyurethane cellular foams, particularly for the case at lower temperature.…”

“…Apart from using different types of core materials, Xu et al studied the effect of the foaming process on insulation thickness and the performance of PUF sandwich panels used in cold storage warehouses. Blends of blowing agents (HCFC‐141b/HFC‐245fa) of six different proportions were used during the manufacture of the PUF.…”

“…Even if the temperature is mitigated with isolation efforts suggested in 2.2.1, the insulation of a warehouse plays a huge role in temperature control, so it is not enough to invest in isolation measures to control the temperature. Companies should install heavy and thick insulation to enhance temperature control inside a warehouse & logistics facility [17]. This will also reduce the energy required for constantly adjusting the temperature [14].…”
