“…However, in the DF, only the Andes clade, which includes the Araraquara and Paranoa genotypes, has been found so far (12) (13) . There are different clinical and epidemiological patterns related with the diversity of the etiological agent (14) .…”

“…(3) The Araraquara clade includes all sequences named Araraquara Preferential host switching in Hantavirus and Paranoa. The former genotype was detected in HPS patients and in Necromys lasiurus specimens from southern and central Brazil (Johnson et al, 1999;Ramsden et al, 2009), whereas the latter was detected only in HPS cases from one locality in central Brazil (Melo-Silva et al, 2009). In our phylogenetic reconstruction, the Paranoa and Araraquara sequences from this locality (Federal District, Brazil) cluster together, suggesting that Paranoa is a synonym of Araraquara.…”

“…This phenomenon may be due to differences of severity between infections caused by Brazilian lineages of hantavirus [1]. Phylogenetic data indicate that in the Central Plateau the main groups of hantavirus are very similar to ARAV [23]. Although ARAV strains are more frequently associated with higher virulence and severe manifestations, many infections caused by this virus are benign [1].…”
