“…Nelson et al (1982) found the activated carbon structure to be present in a Carlin ore but not the hydrocarbon or humic acid carbons. Sibrell et al (1990), working also on Carlin ores, found very low concentrations of hydrocarbons but no humic acids present in the ore. Stenebråten et al (1999) did not find any detectable amounts of hydrocarbons in the Barrick Goldstrike ore. Tafuri (1987) did not find any humic acid in Mercur ore; the carbonaceous matter found was mostly aromatic with an activated carbon-type structure, similar in maturity to anthracitegrade coal (Sibrell et al, 1990;Stenebråten et al, 1999). “…According to Rees and van Deventer (2000), this carbonaceous ore has kerogen as the principal preg-robbing component. In contrast, results from other studies seem to indicate that the carbonaceous matter is mostly aromatic with an activated carbon-type structure, similar in maturity to anthracite-grade coal (Sibrell et al, 1990;Stenebråten et al, 1999).
