Characterization of Free Exopolysaccharides Secreted by Mycoplasma mycoides Subsp. mycoides

Abstract: Contagious bovine pleuropneumonia is a severe respiratory disease of cattle that is caused by a bacterium of the Mycoplasma genus, namely Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides (Mmm). In the absence of classical virulence determinants, the pathogenicity of Mmm is thought to rely on intrinsic metabolic functions and specific components of the outer cell surface. One of these latter, the capsular polysaccharide galactan has been notably demonstrated to play a role in Mmm persistence and dissemination. The free exop… Show more

“…After counting the cells (h 72 [T72] in Table 3), the cultures were centrifuged at 14,000 ϫ g for 1 h at 4°C to separate the cells from the supernatant. EPS were extracted from the cell-free supernatant as described previously (13). CPS were purified from the cell pellet recovered after centrifugation using the method described by Shi et al (22) with some modifications.…”
