Characterization of fibroblast-like cells from the rat olfactory bulb

Abstract: The isolation and characterization of stem cells from an alternative tissue is a subject of intensive investigation. In the present study, we have focused on the characterization of fibroblastic cells in olfactory bulb tissue of the rat. “…MSCs from multiple sources, including olfactory bulb, bone marrow and adipose tissue, can differentiate into cardiomyocytes (Gnecchi et al ., ; Qayyum et al ., ). Olfactory bulb‐derived MSCs have several advantages compared with other MSC sources, including that they are easily enriched, due to their ability to readily adhere to plastic (Soleimani et al ., ), they have a rapid growth rate and take less time to differentiate into cardiogenic cells (within 1 week) compared to MSCs from adipose tissue (about 2 weeks) (Cai et al ., ) and bone marrow (2–4 weeks) (Xing et al ., ; Li et al ., ).
