“…aureus strain identified in Ireland and the United States (Fitzgerald et al, 1997), later identified to be CC151 (Herron-Olson et al, 2007), was observed in our study and another study from the Netherlands (Ikawaty et al, 2009). Clonal complex CC479 was also common in that study (Ikawaty et al, 2009), as well as in our study. We identified ST50 in a single herd with high Staph.…”

“…Thirteen ST were observed, belonging to 8 CC, with 3 new ST identified. Approximately 20% of the isolates belonged to CC (CC1, CC8, CC9, and CC398) not previously associated with bovine mastitis (Smith et al, 2005b;Aires-de-Sousa et al, 2007;Rabello et al, 2007;Hasman et al, 2009;Ikawaty et al, 2009). All 34 ST50 isolates were identified in a single herd and this ST was widespread within the herd: 34 out of 40 quarters from which isolates were genotyped were positive for ST50 Staph.…”

“…All obtained isolates were screened by duplex PCR using primers specific for mecA gene and clonal complex 398 (28). Strain MRSA CC398 S0358, kindly provided by the University of Copenhagen, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, Department of Veterinary Disease and Biology, served as a positive control (14). The detection of enterotoxin genes sea, seb, sec, sed, and see was performed by the method described by Becker et al (2).…”
