Characterization of culturable bacteria from pulp and paper industry wastewater, with the potential for degradation of cellulose, starch, and lipids

Abstract: The search for microbial enzymatic activities applied to wastewater treatment is an important task in environmental biotechnology. Microbial enzymes have been previously explored in hostile habitats. They are increasingly important in extreme habitats; biological wastewater from the pulp and paper mill industry can harbor microorganisms with valuable enzymatic capabilities that can improve the efficiency for the same process of depuration. This study was performed to characterize and evaluate cellulolytic, amy… Show more

“…Accordingly, with 601 frequencies in 2015, the keyword Biodegradation was the highest, and then with a frequency of 492 in 2016, the keyword Bioremediation was determined. Moreover, keywords, such as Gene sequence 30 , Gasoline 31 , Microflora 32 , Wastewater treatment [33][34][35] , and Microbiota 36 in 2019 were identified with frequencies of 36, 32, 27, 26, and 25, respectively.…”

“…In lagoon treatment system, a mixture of Bacillus subtilis, B. megaterium, B. licheniformis, B. pumilus, B. thuringiensis, B. cereus, Chryseobacterium daecheongense, and Microbacterium sediminis were identified in the treated pulp and paper mill wastewater (PPMW), whereas B. cereus was the best strain for cellulose and lipase activities (Bailon--Salas et al 2018). Likewise, Bacillus aryabhattai isolated from PPMW had the ability to reduce color and lignin (Zainith et al 2019).…”
