Characterization of chicken interferon-inducible transmembrane protein-10

Abstract: Interferon-inducible transmembrane protein (IFITM) family proteins are antivirus factors. In the present study, we examined the expression pattern of chicken IFITM10 using quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. In adult chickens, IFITM10 levels were markedly lower than those of IFITM3, which exhibits antivirus activity. On the other hand, IFITM10 was expressed in levels similar to those of IFITM3 in embryonic organs. Primordial germ cells in 2.5-d embryos expressed high levels of IFITM10… Show more

“…It is reported that IFITM10 was expressed in the brain and spleen of mice, whereas not expressed in bone (31). The expression level of IFITM10 in chicken was decreased with the continuous development of embryonic germ cells (32). IFITM10 had been reported in spleen tissues, and we found that IFITM10 was also expressed in esophagus, trachea, bone and muscle.…”

“…Therefore, some researchers question whether IFITM10 is regulated by the interferon ( 9 ). However, the existing experiments only proved that IFN-α did not have the ability to activate IFITM10 ( 10 ). Some studies have shown that the level of interferon is lower in the serum of patients with GC compared to that in normal people.…”

“…IFITM10 has the highest species conservation ( 9 ). The latest research shows that IFITM10 has weak antiviral properties ( 10 ). Fusion transcripts of IFITM10 and cathepsin D promote breast cancer proliferation ( 11 ).…”

“…In contrast, IFITM5 and IFITM10 are insensitive to IFNs and exert indistinct antiviral functions (33,34). IFITM5, which evolved in bony fish, is highly conserved within the IFITM family based on the lack of gene duplication or positive selection detected, consistent with its functional specialization in bone development (4,31).…”
