Characterization of cDNAs encoding isoforms of hamster 3 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase/delta 5-->4 isomerase

Abstract: Western blot analyses of various hamster tissues reveal high levels of expression of 3 -hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (3 -HSD) in adrenal and liver, and moderate levels of expression in kidney. The expression in liver is sexually dimorphic; very high levels of protein are observed in adult male liver but very low levels are seen in the female liver. “…This finding suggests that the non-endocrine tissues of Japanese eel potentially express the P450scc and P450c17 gene, however, the transcript abundance is low and below the detectable level of conventional RT-PCR as employed in this study. Multiple forms of 3β-HSD and its expression in a variety of tissues have been demonstrated in mammals, especially in rodents [35,36].
