Characterization of an ovarian carcinoma cell line

Abstract: A long-term ovarian carcinoma cell line is described in terms of its morphology, original histopathology, electron microscopic features and chromosome features before and after transplantation into an athymic nude mouse. The microscopic features of the tumor nodule grown in the nude mouse are compared with the original pathology. Epithelial characteristics of the cells were maintained in culture and after retrieval from the nude mouse. Three markers were identified in all karyotypes and trisomy was noted in ch… Show more

“…The 2774 ovarian tumor cell line was derived from ascitic fluid of a patient with serous cystadenocarcinoma (39). Genetic instability in this cell line was analyzed by comparing the profiles of polymorphic (CA)n microsatellites in normal, tumor, and cell line 2774 DNA (Fig.…”

“…Tumors develop when nude mice are inoculated subcutaneously. 2 The MDAH-2774 cell line was developed from cells in the ascitic fluid from a patient with endometrioid ovarian cancer and forms tumors in nude mice (22). TOV-112D was derived from an endometrioid carcinoma from a patient who was never exposed to chemotherapy or radiation therapy (23).…”

“…Cell line SK-OV-3 was originally derived from an ovarian adenocarcinoma (Fogh et al, 1977) and in organotypic culture the cells stratify and stain positive for mucin. Cell line MDAH2774, which originally was derived from a welldifferentiated endometrioid ovarian cancer (Freedman et al, 1978), displays stratification and stains positive for mucin. These cells have been reported to produce poorly differentiated, papillary serous cystadenocarcinomas in nude mice.…”
