Characterization of an intracranial neurothekeoma: case report

Abstract: AIm: Neurothekeomas are benign tumors of presumed neural sheath origin. They are primarily found in superficial soft tissues, located in the upper portion of the body. Here, we report a case of intracranial neurothekeoma. results:A 37-year-old female presented at our clinic with sudden-onset left hemifacial pain of varying duration. The physical and neurological examination findings were normal. The magnetic resonance imaging scan showed a mass compressing the pons and extending from the medial section of the … Show more

“…Based on statistical analysis, GTR alone, if tolerable, is advocated as the optimal treatment for PICM. 6,39 Nevertheless, conservative excision may be preferred to avoid damage to vital structures. 22 PICMs have a tendency to recur within a few years of the initial surgery if resection is incomplete; therefore, postoperative follow-up is essential.…”

“…Neurothekeoma is nothing but a benign nerve sheath tumor with extensive myxoid degeneration that commonly arises from small cutaneous nerves and has a predilection for the head, neck and shoulders. [17] Until date only four cases of intracranial neurothekeomas (all extraosseous) have been reported, located in the prepontine cistern, [18] posterior fossa, [19] parasellar region [20] and deep white matter in the middle cranial fossa. [21] All these cases showed predominant T1 hypointensity and T2 hyperintensity with heterogeneous post-contrast enhancement.…”
