Characterization of a strawberry late‐expressed and fruit‐specific peptide methionine sulphoxide reductase

Abstract: We have cloned and characterized a cDNA clone, called Fapmsr, coding for a putative peptide methionine sulphoxide [Met(O)] reductase (PMSR, EC 1.8.4.6) from strawberry fruits (Fragaria x ananassa). This gene is involved in the repair of inactive peptides and proteins caused for the oxidation of methionine residues to Met(O). Expression of the Fapmsr was only detected in the receptacles of red mature fruits and not in young or immature fruits nor in other plant tissues such as flowers, leaves, runners, roots or… Show more

“…Peptide methionine sulfoxide reductase and universal stress protein A-like protein genes that could be involved in the protective roles were also upregulated. In line with our results, Lopez et al [69] and Tkaczuk et al [70] reported the upregulation of peptide methionine sulfoxide reductase and universal stress protein A-like protein genes to…”

“…Peptide methionine sulfoxide reductase and universal stress protein A-like protein genes that could be involved in the protective roles were also upregulated. In line with our results, Lopez et al [69] and Tkaczuk et al [70] reported the upregulation of peptide methionine sulfoxide reductase and universal stress protein A-like protein genes to overcome stress conditions. Moreover, there was an upregulation of the gene that encodes peroxidase, the enzyme that catalyzes the reduction of peroxides and the polymerization of toxic compounds [71].…”

“…5a). In other plant species, it is worth mentioning that a very high level of expression of a gene related to AtMSRA1 has been reported in strawberry fruits during the ripening stage (Lopez et al 2006). The corresponding transcript is neither detected in immature fruits, nor in other plant organs (Lopez et al 2006 …”

“…Oxidative stress also causes protein oxidation and lipid peroxidation. The overexpression of peptide Met sulfoxide reductase (E4; spots 58 and 60) after ethylene induction during ripening is, on the other hand, well documented in tomato and strawberry fruit (Lincoln et al, 1987;Lopez et al, 2006). This protein is implicated in repair of oxidized damaged proteins.…”
