Characterization of a‐Se p–i–n junction fabricated using bidirectional electrolysis in NaCl(aq)

Abstract: In this article, we introduce an electrochemical doping method of amorphous selenium (a-Se) using NaCl(aq). Recently, an aSe photovoltaic device fabricated using this method [I. Saito, W. Miyazaki, M. Onishi, Y. Kudo, T. Masuzawa, T. Yamada, A. Koh, D. Chua, K. Soga, M. Overend, M. Aono, G. A. J. Amaratunga, and K. Okano, Appl. Phys. Lett. 98, 152102 (2011)] has been announced and opened up the potential of a new impurity doping method. This study will further explore its possibilities by doping chlorine (Cl)… Show more

“…The films were dipped into saturated aqueous solution of sodium chloride (NaCl), and a DC voltage was applied between the substrate of a‐Se and a counter electrode made of copper. Through this process, Cl atoms in the solution are incorporated into the surface of a‐Se films, which changes natively weak p‐type a‐Se into n‐type . The current during electrolysis was kept at 1 μA to obtain high Cl concentration at the surface of the film.…”

“…Another way of introducing Cl impurities is through electrolysis [97], [98]. During the electrolysis process, a-Se is used as the anode to electrolyze a saturated NaCl solution.…”
