Characterization of a new hybrid mink-mouse clone panel: chromosomal and regional assignments of the GLO, ACY, NP, CKBB, ADH2, and ME1 loci in mink (Mustela vison)

Abstract: To expand the mink map, we established a new panel consisting of 23 mink-mouse clones. On the basis of statistical criteria (Wijnen et al. 1977; Burgerhout 1978), we developed a computer program for choice of clones of the panel. Assignments of the following mink genes were achieved with the use of the hybrid panel: glyoxalase (GLO), Chromosome (Chr) 1; acetyl acylase (ACY), Chr 5; creatine phosphokinase B (CKBB), Chr 10; alcohol dehydrogenase-2 (subunit B) (ADH2), Chr 8. Using a series of clones carrying rear… Show more

“…To date, the focus has been on coat color genetics (Shackelford, 1948(Shackelford, & 1949Ness et al, 1988;Trapezov, 1997;Anistoroaei et al, & 2008Benkel et al, 2009), isolating microsatellite markers and constructing linkage maps (Anistoroaei et al, 2006Ansari et. al, 2007), and gene mapping using Zoo-FISH experiments (Hameister et al, 1997;Graphodatsky et al, 2000;Kuznetsov et al, 2003) and somatic cell hybrids (Rubtsov et al, 1981;Pack et al, 1992).…”

“…The chromosomal location of at least 127 genes of the American mink has been established (KUZNETSOV et al, 2003;BENSON et al, 2012). Gene mapping is based here on the use of somatic cellular hybrids of the American mink-Chinese hamster (Cricetulus griseus Milne-Edwards, 1867) and the American mink-house mouse (Mus musculus L., 1758) (RUBSTOV et al, 1981;PACK et al, 1992;KUZNETSOV et al, 2003), methods of comparative cytogenetics -FISH (Fluorescence in situ Hybridization), Zoo-FISH (Cross-Species Fluorescent in situ Hybridization), comparative gene mapping and breeding tests (SEROV, 1998;SEROV and RUBSTOV, 1998). It is worth noting that the somatic cell hybrids of the American mink-domestic pig type (Sus scrofa f. domestica L., 1758) are successfully used for cytogenetic studies in the latter species (ZHDANOVA et al, 1996;KOROLEVA et al, 1998).…”
