Characterization of a ballistic supermirror neutron guide

Abstract: We describe the beam characteristics of the first ballistic supermirror neutron guide H113 that feeds the neutron user facility for particle physics PF1B of the Institute Laue-Langevin, Grenoble (ILL). At present, the neutron capture flux density of H113 at its 20×6cm 2 exit window is Φ C =1.35⋅10 10 cm −2 s −1 , and will soon be raised to above 2⋅10 10 cm −2 s −1 . Beam divergence is no larger than beam divergence from a conventional Ni coated guide. A model is developed that permits rapid calculation of beam… Show more

“…The mixed array was installed at the exit of the collimation line of the cold-neutron guide PF1B [14,15] of the ILL reactor. The collimated cold-neutron beam 12 mm in diameter provided a flux of 10 8 neutrons per second and cm 2 at the target position to induce fission in 235 U.…”

“…This FATIMA spectrometer was combined with part of the EXILL (EXOGAM at ILL [10]) spectrometer consisting of 8 HPGe EXOGAM Clover detectors. Within the EXILL&FATIMA campaign, fast electronic timing measurements were performed in prompt γ-ray spectroscopy experiments using neutron-capture and neutron-induced fission reactions at the highly collimated high-flux cold-neutron beam facility PF1B [11,12] of the ILL. Triple coincidences were used in which a Ge gate selects the cascade of γ rays to be measured by the LaBr 3 detectors.…”

“…During autumn 2012 and spring 2013 the EXOGAM spectrometer [1] and additional detectors were installed on the high intensity cold neutron guide PF1B [2] of the Institut Laue Langevin (ILL) for the EXILL campaign. EXILL is partially a follow-up of a previous campaign using 8 EUROBALL capsule Ge detectors and a highly collimated cold neutron beam for (n,J) measurements [3].…”
