“…The band centred at~920 cm −1 is due to the stretching of the C-COO group when it is deprotonated 34 . The presence of a band at 630 cm −1 , as well as the absence of a band in the region of~700 cm −1 , is associated with the gauche conformer of the S-C-C bond 35 , whereas the doublet in the 400 cm −1 region is likely due to C-C-O bonding 34 . The absence of a strong signal from 750 to 780 cm −1 , the C-N + stretching region of ethyltrimethylammonium bromide, strongly suggests the absence of synthesis residues on the gold plate 36 .…”

“…This band was not observed in the SERS spectrum of MPA–NPs, suggesting the binding of a thiol group to the silver. Another important information is the shift of the bands located at 672 cm −1 and 766 cm −1 to 661 cm −1 and 739 cm −1 , respectively, which is another well-documented proof of the MPA–Ag interaction [14,15]. These bands are assigned to C1–C2 vibrations of gauche and trans conformations of the MPA molecule.…”

“…The spectrum of MPA–NPs is dominated by 935 cm −1 , 1294 cm −1 , and 1415 cm −1 assigned to υ(C-COO), υ(CO)+ δ(OH), and υ(CO) + δ(OH)+, respectively. The detailed assignment of all the MPA–NPs and MPA bands is nicely overviewed elsewhere [15]. Interestingly, since the MPA fully saturated the Ag–NPs surface (thus replacing stabilizing citrates), no interferences by the citrate molecules were recognized in the SERS spectrum.…”

“…Moreover, studies suggested that after TBA adsorption on AgNPs’ surface, TBA’s functional groups might interact with several proteins residues [21]. Conversely, MUA is likely to adsorb to AgNPs’ surface through the thiol (-SH) or the carboxylate group (−COO−) [23]. AgNPs that are coated with MUA residues could thus become more hydrophilic than naked AgNPs [24].…”

“…The decrease in cells viability might be connected with a synergistic effect of ICR-191 and AgNP-MUA nanoparticles. AgNP-MUA has a described tendency to aggregate, which might lead to the increased toxicity, explained by clouding of the cell membranes, and thereby facilitates ICR-191 activity [23,24,41]. Many cells lines that interact with AgNPs have been cultured and studied so far, including red blood cells, L929 fibroblasts, RAW 264.7 murine macrophages, L5178Y lymphoma cells, BRL3A rat liver cells, PC-12 pheochromocytoma-derived cell neuroendocrine cells, GSCs germ line stem cells, RBE4 rat brain endothelial cells, MCF-7 human breast adenocarcinoma cells, HepG2 human liver cells, BEAS-2B human bronchial epithelial cells, A4549 lung alveolar epithelial cells, and hMSC (human mesenchymal stem cells).…”
