Short stories provide readers series of events that take place in the life of the characters. For both enjoyment and reflection, the events are considerably constructed by the writer to share meaningful values. Readers can learn how the characters solve problems to overcome obstacles. This study discusses the personality traits of the main character and how they are described in the short story “The Nightmare before Christmas.” Qualitative method, with the approach of content analysis focusing on the main character Jack Skellington, was applied. Through a close reading, it was found that the main character was a brave person who loved to experience new things. For his brevity to a new breakthrough in what he had done in the past, he was kind of cool person. Fundamentally, he was also a loving and loyal character. All of these inner strengths contribute to make the character more likeable. Meanwhile, the personality of the main character is predominantly shown through mixing method, that is a mixed of dramatic, characters on characters, and contextual characterization. This indicates that the main character, Jack Skellington is delineated by giving indirect descriptions and implicit statements aiming to show the personality traits of the main character to the readers

In literary works such as short stories, novels, dramas, and films, the characters in the film play a very important role in conveying the story. Having a character with a strong personality can make a good impression on the audience and readers. In this case, the role of the author is very important in creating characters that have strong personalities through character development so that they can create a realistic character. This study aims to determine how the author portrays the main character, Frances Halladay, in terms of three dimensions of characterization, by using the character dimensions theory of Egri (1960). This research uses descriptive qualitative research methods, and the object of study is the film Frances Ha, which was released in 2012 and directed by Noah Baumbach. Observation and documentation methods were used in this study by watching the film, reading the script, and taking notes. The results of the research can be concluded that the main character, Frances Halladay, in the film Frances Ha, shows three dimensions of characterization possessed by the main character, namely physiological, psychological, and sociological. In presenting this dimension, this study presents figures and/or dialogue from the film.

Egri's three-dimensional theory (1923) was employed to examine the multifaceted aspects of Catherine Danielle Clark, the main character in Delia Owens' novel "Where the Crawdads Sing." This qualitative study utilized a narrative approach to gather and analyze data through inductive and deductive techniques. The findings revealed several three-dimensional aspects of Catherine Danielle Clark. Physically, she possessed beauty, long black hair, and a well-proportioned body with a deep-tanned complexion, which improved as she matured. Socially, she hailed from a lower-class American family, held various jobs as a seafood seller, book writer, and poet, and experienced discrimination and singledom. Her hobbies included reading books and collecting organisms from the marsh. Psychologically, she exhibited introversion, insecurity, sensitivity, irritability, selfishness, anxiety, and a reluctance to forgive. However, she also displayed independence, optimism, and a determined fighting spirit for survival, showcasing remarkable talent in painting and writing. Overall, the study found that the psychological dimension was more pronounced than the physiological and social dimensions.
