Characterization and Structural Determination of a New Sodium Lanthanum Phosphate Thiosulfate, Na₂La[PO₄][S₂O₃].

Abstract

Phosphate Thiosulfate, Na2La[PO4][S2O3]. -The title compound is prepared by solid state reaction of La2O3 and Na3(PO3S) in a flux of Na2S4 at 400°C (sealed silica tube, 10 d). Na2La[PO4][S2O3] crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c with Z = 4, as revealed by Rietveld refinement of the powder XRD pattern. The structure consists of two-dimensional anionic layers of [La(PO 4 )(S 2 O 3 )] 2with charge-compensating Na + cations between the layers.
