“…It shows a broad band at 3434 cm À1 , attributed to -OH stretching vibration and the one at 2923 cm À1 representing the aliphatic C-H stretching vibration. The band at 1636 cm À1 has been attributed to the -OH bending of adsorbed water [29][30][31]. This band shifted to 1645 cm À1 in the CELL:CHIT 5:5 spectrum, where the chitosan bands due to amide I and amine groups are possibly overlapping into this single band.…”

“…The disappearance of the band at 1,738 cm -1 revealed that alkaline treatment cleaved the ester bonds of hemicelluloses, such as acetyl and uronic-ester groups in all of the alkali-treated samples (Sun and Tomkinson, 2002). Two apparent bands were detected in the case of untreated substrates around 1,735 and 1,241 cm -1 attributable to C = O and C-O stretching vibrations at the acetyl ester unit of hemicelluloses (Owen and Thomas, 1989;Chen et al, 1997;Gastaldi et al, 1998;). However, a gradual diminishing of intensities in the two bands in both the hydrothermally and NaOH pretreated substrates was ascribed to the deacetylation with the removal of hemicelluloses.…”

“…In sugarcane bagasse (Figure 2A) and wheat straw ( Figure 2B), carbonyl band at 1740 cm -1 , ascribed to hemicellulose [20] was drastically reduced upon hydrolysis due to its breakdown [21]. The C=O stretching and aromatic vibration bands at 1640 cm -1 and at 1511 cm -1 [22] in wheat straw upon hydrolysis, were reduced, compared to raw material due to simultaneous release of lignin cross linked to hemicellulose.…”
