“…Glasses containing transition metal ions (TMI) have attracted much attention due to their electrical [1][2][3][4][5][6][7], optical [8][9][10][11][12][13] and magnetic properties [14][15][16][17] which render them suitable for large practical and potential applications in many fields such as memory switching [18,19] electronics [5,6,12,15], catalysis [20][21][22] and magnetic information storage [10,14,16]. These properties of the TMI glasses arise from the presence of TMI in multivalent states [4,[23][24][25][26].…”

“…2. The increase in the density with x may be attributed due to the introduction of heavy mass (vanadium in place of boron) which has a linear dependence on the composition and the increase in the molar volume with x may be attributed to the increase in non-bridging oxygens (NBOs) [5].…”

“…Alkali bismuth borate glasses are familiar due to their infrared transmission and this glass network offers a highly suitable environment for hosting TM ions. In our earlier studies on multicomponent alkali borate glasses and alkali bismuth borate glasses interesting results have been found in both physical and spectroscopic properties with the variation of alkali concentration in the glass matrix [4][5][6]. Some of the physical properties such as glass transition temperature, and optical energy gap showed a maximum or minimum around the equi-molar alkali concentration and therefore it is interesting to study the effect of the concentration of TM ions on the physical and spectroscopic properties of the equi-molar alkali glass systems.…”

“…On the other hand, glasses doped with transitional metal ions (TMI) attract much attention because of their interesting electrical [6][7][8], optical [9][10][11] and magnetic properties [12][13][14][15][16]. These properties are determined by the presence of TMI in multivalent states, by the environment of TMI as well as by the TMI content and its distribution in the glass matrix.…”

“…These properties are determined by the presence of TMI in multivalent states, by the environment of TMI as well as by the TMI content and its distribution in the glass matrix. Because of these properties glasses containing TMI are useful for large practical and potential applications in many fields, such as electronics [6,7,10,12], magnetic information storage [11,12,15], tunable solid state lasers and fiber optic communication systems [9]. The properties of glasses are mainly determined by the degree of local order/disorder, so that investigations giving information about the local structure are important in order to understand the correlation between properties and structure.…”
