Characterization and Mössbauer spectroscopy of steel slag generated in the ladle furnance in SIDERPERU steel plant

Abstract: The steel industry produces large amounts of slag coming from different stages during the steelmaking process every year. Currently, there are numerous attempts to recycle it or to use it in some other industry sectors and to preserve the environment. The characteristics of the slag depends on the steelmaking process and it is crucial to have it before any attempt of recycling. In this work, slag sample produced in the ladle furnace from SIDERPERU steel plant were collected and analyzed by using energy dispers… Show more

“…The steel slag produced during the ladle refining stage consists of calcium oxide (CaO) and magnesium oxide (MgO), contributing to 60 % of its weight. All the other added alloys and the chemicals used to protect the refractory wall of the ladle furnace contribute to the final composition of LF slag [20].…”

“…According to different production processes and stages, steel slag is mainly divided into basic oxygen furnaces steel slag (BOF), electric arc furnace slag (EAF), and ladle furnace slag (LF) [1]. The characteristics of steel slag depend on the steel-making process [2]. It is characterized by rich free calcium oxide/magnesium, low gelling performance, high heavy metals and poor volume stability [3][4][5].…”
