Characterization and fungicide sensitivity of Colletotrichum godetiae causing sweet cherry fruit anthracnose in Guizhou, China

Abstract: Sweet cherry is an important fruit crop with high economic and ornamental value in China. However, cherry fruit anthracnose, caused by Colletotrichum species, greatly impacts cherry yield and quality. Here, we surveyed cherry anthracnose in Guizhou, China from 2019–2020. Necrotic sweet cherry fruits were collected from different areas in Guizhou and examined. A total of 116 Colletotrichum strains were isolated from these symptomatic fruits. Based on the morphological characteristics of the isolates and phyloge… Show more

“…In various regions of Guizhou Province, research has been conducted to isolate and identify decayed sweet cherry fruits, which has revealed Colletotrichum godetiae as the fungus responsible for sweet cherry anthracnose. Furthermore, inhibitory effects on anthracnose have been observed with difenoconazole, triclosan, and tebuconazole [54]. The pathogenic fungus identified in this study aligns with these findings, despite the different sweet cherry varieties examined.…”

“…Moreover, difenoconazole exhibited the highest control efficiency (47.75%), indicating potent antifungal activity against Colletotrichum spp. ( Zhang et al, 2020 ; Peng et al, 2022 ). In contrast, mancozeb showed no potent inhibitory activity against C. aenigma BY827, with EC 50 values of 202.1461 μg/mL.…”

“…Sub-optimal cultivation regions located in southern China, such as Hangzhou, have subtropical monsoon climates, for which a rainy spring is one of the climate characteristics. Therefore, the high humidity and suitable temperature in spring lead to high incidences of various fungal diseases in the orchards, such as leaf spot, gummosis, shoot blight, anthracnose, blossom blight, and fruit rot, which seriously restrict the sustainable development of the sweet cherry industry in these regions [ 2 , 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 ].…”
