Characterization and Field Performance of 15 Strawberry Germplasm under Bangladesh Conditions

Abstract: Fifteen strawberry germplasm collected from local and exotic sources were evaluated for different qualitative and quantitative characters. The germplasm showed variation for majority of the studied traits. Plant height during peak harvest ranged from 14.67 to 25.00 cm and FA 007 exhibited the tallest plants. The maximum number of leaves plant-1 was produced by FA 006 (46.67). The maximum number of runners plant-1 was obtained in FA 003 (68.67) followed by FA 004 (63.00), while the highest number of crown plant… Show more

“…The tallest plant (24.50 cm) was recorded in the genotype FA-015 and the shortest plant (14.98 cm) was recorded in the genotype BARI Strawberry-1 which was statistically identical with the genotype FA-017 (15.85 cm). Rahman, et al [8] found that the tallest plant was 25.00 cm and the shortest plant was 14.67 cm which support the present findings. The maximum number of leaves plant -1 (51.80) was recorded in the genotype FA-015 whereas the minimum number of leaves plant -1 (11.59) was obtained from the genotype FA-007 which was statistically identical with the genotypes FA-006 (13.42 cm) and FA-017 (12.87 cm).…”

“…Maximum number of crown per plant (5.53) was produced by Subarina (V 2 ) which was significantly higher than the other varieties of the experiment and minimum number of crown (2.01) was recorded in Eliyana (V 5 ) among all the varieties. The present finding is more or less in conformity with the results ofRahman et al (2013).…”

“…Such variations in pollen viability might be due the effect of germplasm, temperature and their interaction. Pollen quality was also influenced by high temperature, but the effect of higher temperature on pollen viability is cultivar specific (Rahman et al 2013). Similar variations in pollen viability percentage were reported by Melgarejo et al (2000).…”
