Characterization and corrosion resistance of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene composite coatings reinforced with tungsten carbide particles in hydrochloric acid medium

Abstract: Abstract Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) composite coatings reinforced with different concentrations (1, 3, 6, and 9 wt%) of submicron tungsten carbide (WC) particles were synthesized using electrostatic sprayed method, characterized and evaluated for corrosion resistance in 1 m HCl electrolytic solution. Results showed that the mechanical properties and adhesion strength of the coatings improved with the increasing WC content to an optimum … Show more

“…Akeem et al [ 74 ], developed UHMWPE composite coatings by reinforcing it with different concentrations (1, 3, 6 and 9 wt.%) submicron tungsten carbide (WC) particles and electrostatically sprayed the coatings on air-plasma treated steel substrates. They reported an increase in the mechanical properties and the adhesive strength with the substrates with an increase in the WC content until 6 wt.%.…”

“…Ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene , (UPE) has a highly entangled molecular chain due to its ultrahigh molecular weight, and this structure makes UPE-based composites have good wear resistance, , impact resistance, , corrosion resistance, , and other properties. , It is used in the fields of mechanical parts, marine cables, weapon shells, radar protective shell covers, and so forth. However, at the same time, the intrinsic thermal conductivity of UPE is very poor, and it cannot be used in some thermal and heat dissipation fields. , If the thermal conductivity of UPE-based polymers can be improved while retaining its unique properties, the application range of UPE will be greatly broadened.…”
