Characterization and Corrosion Behaviour of Zn-Sn Binary Alloy Coatings in 0.5 M H2SO4Solution

Abstract: This work examines the characterization and corrosion behaviour of laser alloyed UNSG10150 steel with three different premixed composition Zn-Sn binary powders using a 4.4 kW continuous wave (CW) Rofin Sinar Nd:YAG laser processing system. The steel alloyed samples were cut to corrosion coupons, immersed in sulphuric acid (0.5 M H 2 SO 4 ) solution at 30 o C using electrochemical technique and investigated for its corrosion behaviour. The morphologies and microstructures of the developed coated and uncoated sa… Show more

“…Generally, corrosion is an issue referred to the interaction between material substrate and corrosive electrolyte in certain environment. In practice, measures employed are usually as follows: [1] (i) improving the application environment, such as injection of inhibitors; (ii) improving the corrosion or erosion–corrosion resistance of the material substrate, such as material upgrading, surface modification (coatings or lining). Among all the employed measures, surface modification method is regarded as one of the most common and effective ways in counteracting corrosion [2-4].…”

“…HCl solution contains chloride ions which cause degradation on the surface of an iron at anodic active potential. This leads to incessant dissolution of the base metal causing corrosion degradation [26][27][28][29].…”
