Characterization and corrosion behavior of Ni-Cr coatings by using pulse current electrodeposition

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to study the effect of chromium content on the microstructure and corrosion resistance of Ni-Cr coating. Design/methodology/approach Ni-Cr coating was prepared by pulse current electrodeposition with trivalent chromium. On the basis of studying effect of electroplating parameters on composition and morphology, Ni-Cr alloy coatings with various chromium contents were obtained. The microstructure was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffractometer and tr… Show more

“…However, due to the superhydrophobicity of the film layer, the film resistance R 1 is increased by 10,000 times compared to the untreated matrix, and it has five orders of magnitude rise compared to the micro-arc oxidation sample. This also makes the corrosion resistance of the modified specimen surface better than that of the matrix and micro-arc oxidation specimen because the superhydrophobic properties of the modified surface isolate the corrosive medium from the metal surface (Wei et al , 2022; Wu et al , 2022b; Zhu et al , 2023).…”

“…Hard chromium plating is widely used in the industrial field because of their excellent wear resistance (Jafarzadeh et al, 2004), corrosion resistance (Protsenko et al, 2018) and high hardness (Salehi Doolabi et al, 2014). However, due to the production of harmful acid mist and waste liquid during preparation process, they are limited by many countries and regions (Nguyen Van et al, 2019;Zhu et al, 2023). Cobaltphosphorus (Co-P) plating is expected to be highly promising alternatives to hard chromium plating due to their excellent corrosion resistance, wear resistance and environmental friendliness (Li et al, 2018).…”

“…Solvent coatings are composed of water, emulsion, pigment filler and various additives with organic solvent as a dispersant (Vrentas and Vrentas, 2010). However, in terms of the current development, water-based coatings still show a certain distance from solvent-based coatings in chemical resistance, weather resistance, pollution resistance and wear resistance (Balachandra et al, 2023;Zhu et al, 2023). Besides, the service life of waterbased coatings is shorter than solvent-based coatings.…”
