Two experiments were conducted to compare heat tolerance of red jungle fowl (RJF) and commercial broilers (CB) at (i) a common age and (ii) a common body weight. In exp. 1, RJF and CB of a common age (8 wk) were exposed to 36 ± 1°C for 6 h. RJF had smaller increases in heterophil to lymphocyte ratios and body temperature and higher serum cholesterol concentrations than CB in response to the heat treatment, while tonic immobility (TI) measurements were not affected by heat stress. In exp. 2, RJF and CB of a common body weight (1000 ± 150 g) were subjected to similar procedures as in exp. 1 (except TI durations). Both breeds responded similarly to the heat treatment. In both experiments, RJF had higher serum glucose level than CB, and the trait was not affected by heat exposure. Deux expériences ont été réalisées pour comparer la tolérance à la chaleur des galliformes rouges d'Asie (GRA) et des poulets de chair de production commerciale (PC) à un même âge et à un même poids corporel. Dans l'expérience 1, les GRA et les PC du même âge (8 semaines) étaient exposés à une température de 36 ± 1°C pendant 6 h. Les GRA manifestaient des accroissements moins importants du rapport hétérophiles-lymphocytes et de la température corporelle ainsi qu'une plus forte concentration sérique de cholestérol que les PC en réponse au traitement thermique. Par ailleurs, les valeurs d'immobilité tonique (IT) n'étaient pas touchées par le stress thermique. Dans l'expérience 2, les GRA et les PC de poids corporel comparable (1 000 ± 150 g) étaient exposés aux mêmes conditions que dans l'expérience 1, excepté pour la durée de IT. Les deux types de volaille réagissaient de la même façon au traitement thermique. Dans les 2 traitements les GRA avaient un niveau sérique de glucose plus élevé que les poulets domestiques et ce caractère se maintenait en présence de stress thermique.

Summary : This investigation was held in two environmentaltemperatures; 21 and 35 Oc with two strains of Fayoumi Fowl (Fayoumi Gout -FG, Fayoumi Nongout -FN) and two strains of White Leghorn (normal-DWWL, dwarf-dwWL).The effects of high temperature on the body weight, feed consumption, water consumption, egg weight, egg shell weight, egg shell thickness, fracture force traits were investigated. In the warm environment for the FN, FG, DWWL, dwWL groups, less body weight estimates in the rates of 18.0 %,12.4 %,11.5 %,3.9 % and lessfeed consumption estimates in the rates of 53.0 %, 60.5 %,57.4 %,35.1 %, less egg w.eight estimates in the rates of 7.8 %, 13.3 %, 14.5 %, 6.6 % and less egg shell weight in the rates of 29.6%, 39.2 %, 26.7 %, 9.4 % and less egg shell thickness in the rates of 24.2 %,33.3 %, 14.4 %,2.3 % were obtained respectively.Water consumptionfigures were high for the some groups in the warm environment in the rates of 38.5 %, 61.6 %, 79.6 %, 84.1% respectively. Fracture force estimates were also low in the warm environment for the FN, FG, DWWL groups in the rates of 31.7 %, 39.8 % and 24.2 % respectively./n conclussion, dwarf white Leghorns (dwWL) were better than the others in high temperature.

There has been an unprecedented increase in global animal production, especially in subtropical and tropical areas in the last two decades (Renaudeau et al., 2012). The increase in the demand for food is due to a rise in human population (Godfray et al., 2010). Due to its potential role to provide food and livelihood securities (Paswan et al., 2014), poultry production, especially broiler production, are expected to meet the critical shortage in animal protein needed by Africa (Hatab et al., 2019).There has been growing concerns on the impacts of climate change on livestock production. For example, in West Africa, the expected increase in average temperature by 2°C-6°C by the year 2100 (Sylla et al., 2016) portends a serious challenge to sustainable broiler production. Due to the climatic challenge, heat stress events are expected to become more frequent in livestock species (Rahimi et al., 2020). A study by Tawfeek et al. (2014) showed that high ambient temperature adversely affected the performance of broiler chickens under high ambient temperature. However, the authors indicated that supplementation of antioxidants ameliorated the effects of thermal stress on the birds. Therefore, the diets of the birds are required to be adjusted to the climatic conditions (Attia & Hassan, 2017;Nir, 1992;Suganya et al., 2015) and also to the prevailing economic status of the countries where they are produced.The fast rate of development of the poultry production in tropical countries has also engendered a situation of overdependence on
