Characteristics of tuff breccia-andesite in diverse mechanisms of landslides in Oita Prefecture, Kyushu, Japan

Abstract: Heavy rainfall frequently occurred in Kyushu and triggers the landslides every year. This study observes the landslides which occurred in Oita Prefecture, Kyushu, Japan. The landslides in this study, consisting of the same soil materials, tuff breccia and andesite materials; however, the landslide mechanisms were different. Two landslides occurred caused by heavy rainfall in the different timing of the landslide occurrence, and another landslide occurred without the heavy rainfall or an earthquake occurs. Ther… Show more

“…Usually, the glide plane of the landslides will be the contact plane of these two litho-units (cf. Istiyanti et al 2021). Thus, wherever the landslide occurs, the bedrock will be exposed, which can be seen in all these three landslides.…”

“…Kerala's hill terrain is distinguished by a narrow stretch of unconsolidated soil resting above massive Precambrian crystalline rock (Sajinkumar and Anbazhagan, 2015). The contact plane of these two units becomes the slide plane (Istiyantii et al, 2021), hence soil depth plays a great impact in landslides. All landslide points were located at very high soil depths in the study area.…”

“…Earthquakes occur frequently in the 21st century and will directly cause railway deformation (see Figures 1(a) and 1(b)), causing a lot of economic losses and casualties; induced secondary geological disasters will cause more serious casualties. How to reasonably deal with the earthquake disaster to carry out emergency rescue work is becoming increasingly urgent; the ability level of earthquake disaster emergency rescue personnel is directly related to the follow-up relief effect [1][2][3][4][5]. With the deepening of overseas railway projects, there are a large number of lines located in high-intensity earthquake areas, such as Indonesia Yawan high-speed railway (see Figures 2 & 3), earthquakes occur frequently and do great harm (see Figures 4-7) [6][7][8][9][10], and the talent team cannot meet the needs of rapid growth in terms of scale or quality.…”
