“…A systematic review and meta-analysis of 154 studies 11 of CNSI published between 1990 and 2016 concluded that the global prevalence was 0.4%, making them rare diseases. However, the prevalence can vary from 1%, in general ICUs to 10% or higher in IDICUs, 5,12,13 suggesting that these units may be the ideal places for sentinel syndromic surveillance for CNSI and other HCID. This approach would allow focusing on new diseases with tremendous potential for severe morbidity and mortality.…”
