Characteristics of polyurethane adhesives with various uretonimine contents in isocyanate and average alcohol functionalities

Abstract: Polyurethane adhesives are found in a variety of applications. To ensure durability and functionality, a polyurethane adhesive is required to possess good adhesive properties and thermal stability. In this study, polyurethane adhesives were fabricated using isocyanate and polyols of various type and functionality (f av ). It was found that peel strength of an adhesive is strongly related to the f av of a polyol and uretonimine content. At high uretonimine content, the probability of forming hydrogen bonded com… Show more

“…Polyurethane Adhesives are polymer or thermoplastic glue that contains replicas or organic chain units linked to urethane links (Sung et al, 2016). The chemical reaction between the polymers create an adhesive and becomea multi-purpose product that is used to bind a variety of building materials; metals, glass, wood, and concrete.…”

“…Polyurethanes (PUs) are a kind of polymers containing a lot of urethane groups and urea groups in their principal backbone, so they are easy to interact with of various materials . Polyurethane powder adhesives (PPAs) have been widely used in the plastics, coatings, foams, adhesives, elastomer, and so on due to their excellent mechanical and chemical properties . Traditional PU adhesives are solvent‐borne systems, which will release considerable toxic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the process of production and use .…”

“…Among the aforementioned grouting materials, polyurethane has attracted widespread attention owing to its good flexibility, high permeability, strong adhesion, and easy manipulation [17,18,19], and is regarded as one of the most promising candidates. However, polyurethane grouting material still suffers from high price, flammability, poor barrier property, and thermal stability [20,21], which limits its practical applications. Thus, finding an effective and cost-efficient way to achieve polyurethane grouting materials with improved performance is highly desirable.…”
