Characteristics of Pollution from Waste Liquor of Poplar Pre-Conditioning Refiner Chemical Alkaline Peroxide Mechanical Pulping

Abstract: The molecular weight distribution and composition of organic pollutants from chemi-mechanical pulping waste liquor was studied using ultrafiltration, Fourier transform infrared spectra, and gas chromatographymass spectrometry. The concentration of dissolved chemical organic compounds was approximately 1.81 × 10 4 mg·L -1. In addition, the wastewater had poor biodegradability. The chemical oxygen demand (COD) was primarily composed of small molecular organic pollutants, and the larger pollutants in the waste li… Show more

“…As the amount of acidic filtrate increased, the stratification became faster. At the acidic filtrate and wastewater addition of 1:2 ratio (v/v), it reduced the electrolysis reaction time 72 h. Compared with Yang et al (2019), the reaction time of 72 h was shorter than 168 h of Phanerochaete chrysosporium biological PEER-REVIEWED ARTICLE bioresources.com treatment. During the electrolysis, the precipitation stratification appeared and polymers in the wastewater would precipitate under acidic conditions.…”

“…Liu et al (2020a) used Aspergillus niger S13 aerobic fermentation to treat APMP pulping effluent. Yang et al (2019) selected Phanerochaete chrysosporium to treat APMP wastewater. The biological treatment process is relatively complex.…”

“…Widely used mechanical pulping processes that incorporate thermal and/or chemical treatments include chemi-mechanical pulping (CMP), thermomechanical pulping (TMP), chemithermomechanical pulping (CTMP), alkaline peroxide mechanical pulping (APMP), and preconditioning refiner chemical APMP (P-RC APMP) (Xu 2001;Sain et al 2002;Kong et al 2009;Hellstroem et al 2012;Li et al 2014;Engstrand et al 2016;Yang et al 2019). Advantages of these processes include higher pulp yield, lower capital costs than chemical pulping, and production of stronger sheets than with either stone groundwood (SGW) pulping or refiner mechanical pulping (RMP).…”
