Characteristics of Magnetic Properties of Grain-Oriented Silicon Iron with High Permeability

Abstract: Grain-oriented silicon iron with high permeability is prepared using aluminum-nitride needles to restrain normal grain growth. The improvements in hysteresis loss of specimens with a permeability of 1920 are about 0.120 W/kg at 15 kG and 0.160 W/kg at 17 kG as compared to the commerical product with a permeability of 1820. That is the reason why the crystal orientation has a strong influence on total loss, especially at B = 17 kG. The effect of grain size on total loss is important also. The detrimental alumin… Show more

“…Few investigations, however, have dealt with the structure of the glass film, especially the glass film on silicon steel when aluminum nitride ͑AlN͒ is used as an inhibitor for the secondary recrystallization. 4 The main objective of the present work was to characterize the glass film and to present its process of the formation during secondary recrystallization annealing of 3% Si steel using AlN as an inhibitor. The composition and element distribution in the glass film, and dependence of initial acid-soluble aluminum concentrations on film composition, were studied.…”

“…Silicon steels are known to be a superior soft magnetic material with good initial permeability and high maximum magnetic flux density [1][2][3]. The magnetic properties of silicon steels depend strongly on microstructure; the {110}͗001͘ oriented (Goss orientation) grains show good soft magnetic properties because magnetic spins can be easily aligned under a cyclically applied magnetic field and the energy loss is low during spin rotation [4].…”
