“…According to a Lebanese single-institution descriptive study, the incidence of gastric cancer in the Lebanese population ranked seventh in males and tenth in females with an average of 240 cases per year (equivalent to 5–7 per year per 100,000 inhabitants); trends were not studied [19]. According to our present study, we confirm that both GA incidence and incidence rate have decreased in central Tunisia, starting from the year 2009.…”

“…According to a recent national epidemiological study and records from the Lebanese Ministry of Health, cancer incidence in Lebanon is among the highest in the region and is expected to remain high over the coming decade (1). Specifically, there was an increase in the age-standardized incidence rates of gastric cancer (GC) between 2003 and 2008, from 6.2 to 8.1 cases per 100,000 among males, and from 5.1 to 6.7 cases per 100,000 among females (1,2). In Lebanon, there are on average 240 cases of GC per year, and GC ranks as the seventh and tenth most common cause of cancer among males and females, respectively (3).…”

“…This could be due to differences in lifestyle, including drinking, smoking, or increased stress levels in men, which have been linked to the early development of gastric cancer. 10 On observing the various risk factors for gastric cancer, majority of the patients in our study were exposed to smoking tobacco with 57% of smokers. Chewing tobacco was observed in 39% of them whereas 42% consumed alcohol regularly.…”
