Characteristics of exosomes andmicroparticles discovered in human tears

Show more

“…The structure of the molecular aggre gates did not differ from that described previously [11]. Components of cell debris (40-250 nm) had different shapes and uniform or grain structure (Fig.…”

“…Our preliminary ultrastructural studies of superna tants of tears from patients with various ophthalmo logic diseases revealed that tears represent a multi component system containing loose protein aggre gates and various submicroscopic structures including vesicles [11] with sizes, corresponding to exosomes.…”

“…CD24 can regulate both pro- and anti-proliferative effects in cancer cells, and both increase or reduce metastasis, depending on the cancer type (Kristiansen et al, 2004; Ju et al, 2011). Finally, we and others have identified CD24 as being carried on exosomes and microvesicles (Keller et al, 2007; Ayre et al, 2015; Grigor'eva et al, 2016), where its ultimate function is unknown.…”

“…Particularly appealing is the noninvasive nature of collecting tear fluid, but a potential drawback is the relatively small volumes that can be collected. To date, tear fluid as a source for exosomal biomarkers has not been extensively investigated, as evidenced by the fact that we only found one publication investigating exosomes in tear fluid (Grigor’eva et al, 2016). Proteomic biomarker studies of tear fluid have identified a number of proteins (e.g.…”
