Characteristics of Electrolysis In-process Dressing Grinding of Al/SiCp Composite Materials

Abstract: A study on grinding of 2124 Al/SiC p (15% SiC p ) metal matrix composite material with conventional and ELID grindings uses various current duty ratio. Normal forces and tangential forces are monitored. Surface roughness and Vickers hardness numbers are measured. When the results are compared ELID grinding shows less grinding forces due to the breakage of the insulating layer formed on the grinding wheel.
